Hi there! It’s been getting pretty hot here, but it happened so quickly that it actually meant a lot of summer storms. The rain is blowing pretty heavily right now actually as I write this. I have two ideas of the perfect summer evening. The first is sitting somewhere where I can watch the storm safely and be dry. The second is sitting on my balcony with a glass of rose in my hand and a new album playing in my headphones. Right now I’m really into Lorde’s Melodrama and Bleachers Gone Now (which makes sense since Jack Antonoff produced both). Also really into Carly Rae Jepsen’s song Cut to the Feeling. Which I accidentally played out loud in my office earlier today…oops.
As far as my summer weekends go, they’ve basically been completely booked up. They are filled with lots of trips, quick 3-day city breaks, 2-day camping trips and one longer trip. Within all of that I’ve started to pick up some new summer must-haves and wanted to share some options with you for your getaways. Or even just a week night sitting enjoying the weather.
Please share some of your summer essentials in the comments, I’d love to find out what you guys have been buying or looking at recently. I’ve left books off of the list because I’m going to do a “must read” post next week with all of the books I’ve read and have been obsessed with lately.
All of these are the perfect example of how cheap things can be in the US and then are insanely more expensive in Canada. So if you’re planning on taking a trip to the US or have a friend/family member there you can mail things to maybe try that. Otherwise the price might be worth it? Up to you.
I have stuck to my bandeau bathing suit tops and low rise bottoms for quite some time but just as my everyday fashion has changed – so have my bikini needs. Finally there are cute one pieces out there. So I picked up the top one in navy and love it, can’t recommend enough. So now I’m considering a few other styles. I love this cutout one and these high rise bikini bottoms that I can mix and match with tops I already have.
Apologies to my non-Canadian readings, but this summer I HAVE to mention the cute Canada 150 tees. I always struggle on Canada day to find a cute red shirt because I really just do not enjoy wearing red. So I wear it once then throw it away. But I knew I wanted something special for the 150 to have for years to come. I bought the red map shirt above (they’re all out of Women’s online but there are some in store).
Then I stumbled across these amazing provincial flower shirts at Drake General Store. How cute is the Ontario one? PEI and Alberta are my other favourites, but I’ve got to stay loyal to my home province. Although I did consider buying a New Brunswick one. You can find the whole collection here.
While I do go very light on the jewellery in the summer there’s one accessory I will never be caught dead without – my sunglasses. Okay that was lame but let me live I have light blue eyes so the sun is way too harsh without them. I love my expensive prescription sunglasses but it’s also nice having a lighter fun pair to just throw on whenever. As for hats, I never usually reach for more than a bobble hat in winter but why not keep the sun away from my pale skin and look cute?
Waterproof Mascara (warning this stuff DOES NOT budge, it takes a lot to get off)
NYX Eyebrow pencils
I went to work today wearing a full face of makeup and when I got there I felt ridiculous. Even though this is pretty typical for me and I think it looked nice it felt SO thick. Especially as our AC has been on the fritz a bit lately. What was reasonable in winter is just too much for summer. So I went to the Drug Store and picked up some darker shades of my favourite products (I’ve noticed my regular shades are too white) so I can go lighter. These will definitely help with that.
What are your summer essentials? Share some with me and I can’t wait to share more of my summer adventures with you! Check back later in the week for more and don’t forget to follow me on bloglovin’
