Every year whenever I mention a Christmas movie I always hear someone say “oh yeah me and my family watch that every year on Christmas eve”. My family definitely had our traditions as well and over the years I’ve cultivated my own. It’s nice to have own traditions with myself. When I was in university there were certain films that I would watch every year while I was packing to go home. It was nice to have something all my own to watch and enjoy.
Now if you need a tradition to start with yourself or with your family or friends try one of these movies on Christmas eve.
This is my tradition with myself. I’m not sure how many year I’ve been watching this one by myself but probably 7 or 8 years. My favourite thing to do in the lead up to Christmas is put the Holiday on and watch it while I wrap presents or prep for Christmas in some way. This year I wrote blog posts. But either way I love this movie and watching it once a year by myself just feels like self love. Not to mention what a beautiful score this movie has, please listen to it.
There really is no flaw to this wonderful movie, it is an unproblematic fave.
It’s A Wonderful Life
This one was a tradition with me and my family when I was small. We used to watch it every Christmas eve until my brother and I got a little older and we started watching the next one…
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
When I was a pre-teen this was our family Christmas eve movie of choice. I’ve seen this one a fair number of times as well. Definitely good for a holiday laugh.
The Family Stone
Christmas! Drama! Sarah Jessica Parker! Rachel McAdams! The struggle of family at holidays. All wonderful elements of this movie you’re sure to enjoy. I really don’t think there’s anything else like it out there.
Muppet’s Christmas Carol
I watched this movie when I was young but didn’t remember it very much when I watched it just this week with some friends. But the combination of Charles Dickins with the Muppet and some music, what’s not to love?
Today is my final day of work and then I’m off to go spend time with my loved ones for the holidays. I will do my best to put up blog posts here and there (I’ll always post on Facebook and Twitter when I do so check out those links above or just check back here) but I am on vacation so if there’s a bit of a lapse until I get back then forgive me. I will be shooting lots of photos over the break and getting lots of content ready for the New Year 🙂 see you then!
