Birthday Week is a concept my mom made up for my brother and I when we were little. If you want to claim your mom came up with it, fine you can continue to believe that. For those who are new to Birthday Week, it begins exactly one week before your birthday and the rest is up to interpretation but it essentially works out to spoiling the person who’s birthday is coming up. Different people prefer different things, the same as with someone’s actual birthday, it’s not one size fits all.
When I was younger it meant my mom spoiling with me trashy magazines and the holy grail of kid food – a McDonald’s Happy Meal. As an adult who lives far away from her parents, I’m not exactly sure what it means.
My Birthday Week started on Tuesday the 22nd. So far my friends and boyfriend have been the sweetest, kindest people possible and spoiling me. So I thought I would share some photos of a few of the things they’ve surprised me with.
The pink package is one that my roommate Rowan left for me while she’s away and I’m following instructions.
These three are from my Boyfriend. He gave me a book that I had been talking about a few months back and inside each chapter he tucked an envelope corresponding with each day for Birthday Week. They are little sweet notes but also tell me if I can open a present or if we’re going out somewhere fun.
The people around me have been so kind this year that it has made me smile constantly. Thank you if you were at all involved in any of this or anything coming up this week.
I’ll be making additional posts about the content of those letters and things that happen this week as they unfold.
What do you like to do for your friends or family to make them excited in the lead up to their birthday? Do you get as excited for your birthday as I do?
